Let's Play (Wee) Ball!

We decided to sign PJ up to play Wee-ball in the city league near us. It is the only sport that they have for 3 year olds, and we figured that it would be good for him on so many levels. He has been pumped about playing ever since we took him to sign-ups! We took him out and found the perfect glove, and a few balls to practice with. He kept asking us over and over "Mommy, Daddy, are you gonna go to my baseball game and sit in a chair and watch me play?" It was so cute.
Since the first practice was on a Thursday, I packed a snack to give him when I picked him up from school since we would go straight to the baseball field. He talked about playing the whole way there. We finally got to the park and he met his coach and his teammates (3 and 4 year olds).
They raced to the field and immediately got to work. First thing they learned was all of the names of the bases. After that, they practiced running them. It was really quite humorous to see the kids running all over the place, but surprisingly, they picked up pretty quickly.
After they ran the bases, they partnered up and rolled the ball back and forth, catching it in their glove.
They had to squat down in the right position, and a few times, after PJ had his turn, he would turn to me to make sure I was still watching and wave.
Next, they practiced throwing the ball, but first they had to warm up their arms!
They go the kids close to the fence and that was where they were supposed to aim. The parents would hoot and cheer after every single person threw the ball, even if it just dropped straight down to the ground.
Once they all threw the ball, they tried to catch. Again, the parents all cheered for each child when it was their turn. PJ left the ball field feeling so excited and proud of himself. I was so impressed with the coach and his assistance. To have 22 3 and 4 year olds playing weeball is no easy task!
For his second practice, the kids ran through the same drills as before, only this time they got to practice fielding, hitting, and then running the bases. You would never know that these kids had never played, nor seen a game of baseball in their lives... If you had just walked up, you would have thought they were playing a real game!

Here are a few shots of PJ playing in the infield:

We will miss a few practices due to Spring Break, but we will be there for the first game which is supposed to be on April 2nd! As far as we have been told, their team name is the Angels, and they should be getting their numbers soon! I am so proud of my big boy, and can't wait to watch him hit his first homerun!
